Michelin Recognises Bordeaux’s Finest Wine Estates

Michelin has now entered the world of wine, introducing its new Grape distinctions, presented on 7 September at

Bordeaux’s Cité du Vin in the presence of many leading Bordeaux wine estates. Following Burgundy in July, Bordeaux is

the second region to receive this new Michelin wine distinction. In total, 62 estates were recognised: nine with three

Grapes, 16 with two and 37 with one. Michelin assessed estates according to five main criteria: the quality of the terroir;

technical expertise in the winery; the identity of the estate and the owners’ influence; the quality and character of the wine;

and the wine’s ability to age. Almost all the 2026 recipients are already well-established and internationally recognised

estates, many of them belonging to Bordeaux’s historic classifications, including the 1855 and Saint-Émilion classifications

and the Graves classification.
